I was born at a time when gardens bloom in the South. An old apricot tree was growing in the center of our small vegetable garden. In the spring it dressed up in a whitish-pink blossoms hat, in which bees swarmed. In the summer it gave us presents of large orange fruits. Dad dried apricot slices and seeds on large metal sheets. Mom cooked apricot jam and filled up big three-liter jars. My sisters and I made a treehouse in the strong, sprawling branches. On weekends, guests came to visit us and picked apricots to eat and make a compote. In the fall, with the first frost, the leaves shaped like hearts turned bright yellow and evenly covered the ground in a carpet-like fashion around the old tree.
What a beautiful sight! It was in Kerch, in the 70-es.
